The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus, “was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity”, and in chapter thirteen and verse thirteen of his book Luke shared how Jesus, “laid his hands on her” where we read:
And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
The verse reads, “And he laid his hands on her:” Luke began with the words, “and he laid his hands” or “and Jesus placed and put His physical hands” “on her” which means “upon the woman who had the spirit of infirmity”. Luke shared how Jesus placed His “physical” hands upon the woman who was “perpetually bent over”.
The verse continues, “and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.” Luke added the words, “and immediately” or “and straightway and forthwith” “she was made straight” which means “the woman with the infirmity was made erect and built anew”, “and glorified God” or “and praised, extolled, honored and magnified the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Luke shared how the woman with the “bent over” “spiritual infirmity” was “immediately” straighten and made whole by Jesus.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus was able to take care of this woman's difficulty. Not only did He know what her condition was, but He was able to “cure” her problem. No “spirit of infirmity” or “perpetual bent over” condition was a match for Jesus, and in the same way no “sin” within a person's life is to “difficult” to forgive. God loves people, and although they face great challenges in this life, Jesus is greater than them all. Those who are wise will submit themselves to Jesus who is able to address whatever “spiritual” and “physical” difficulties they encounter.
Next time Luke shares how, “the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
