Who Made Jesus a Judge or Divider? - Luke 12:14

The beloved physician Luke wrote how, “one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me”, and in chapter twelve and verse fourteen of his book Luke shared how Jesus asked, “who made me a judge or a divider over you?” where we read:

And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?

The verse reads, “And he said unto him, ... Luke began with the words, “and he said” or “and Jesus uttered, declared, proclaimed and questioned” “unto him” which means “to the man who wanted Jesus to speak to his brother about dividing the inheritance with him”. Luke shared how Jesus began to respond to the man's request to speak to his brother.

The verse continues, “... Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?” Luke added the word, “man” or “male human being”, “who made me a judge” which means “what person placed, set and put Jesus in the position of an arbitrator or umpire” “or a divider” or “one who appoints or administrates” “over you” which means “in charge of the man”? Luke shared how Jesus questioned the “man” as to who he thought made “Jesus” his “arbitrator” or “administrator”.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see Jesus' response to the man who wanted his brother to “divide the inheritance” with him. Jesus asked the man who set Him in place to be the “judge” or “arbitrator” and “administrator” over such a case. Jesus was and is interested in every aspect of a person's life, however, He is mostly concerned over their “eternal spiritual” condition. Whatever “inheritance” this man would have gained was at best temporary, and Jesus will be the “judge” over things which are “everlasting”. Those who are wise will understand the significance and difference between the “temporal” and the “eternal” and be certain they yield their lives to Jesus Christ to be their personal and eternal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “take heed, and beware of covetousness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
