What is the Kingdom of God Like? - Luke 13:18

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus, “was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity. And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day. The Lord then answered him, and said, you hypocrite, does not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his donkey from the stall, and lead him away to watering? And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him”, and in chapter thirteen and verse eighteen of his book Luke shared how Jesus asked , “unto what is the kingdom of God like?” where we read:

Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?

The verse reads, “Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like?” Luke began with the words, “then said he” or “therefore, wherefore, consequently and these things being so Jesus uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked”, “unto what is the kingdom of God like” which means “to what likeness and similarity is the royal power, kingship, dominion and rule of the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”? Luke shared how Jesus asked to what “God's Kingdom” is similar.

The verse goes on to say, “and whereunto shall I resemble it?” Luke continued with words, “and whereunto” or “and to what” “shall I resemble it” which means “will Jesus compare the “Kingdom of God”? Luke shared how Jesus asked what illustration He could use to share what God's Kingdom resembles.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus desired to find another example of what the “Kingdom of God” is like. Jesus used illustrations throughout His ministry to help people understand what “God's Kingdom” was like. We shall see what He employs in our next verse, but for now let it suffice us to know Jesus wants people to be in His Kingdom, and when they yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they are forgiven of their sins, become children of God and enter His Kingdom forever and ever.

Next time Luke shares Jesus how the Kingdom of God, “is like a grain of mustard seed”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
