Luke the beloved physician wrote how Jesus said, “this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. Be you therefore ready also: for the Son of man comes at an hour when you think not. And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing”, and in chapter twelve and verse forty-four of his book Luke shared how Jesus said the lord, “will make him ruler over all that he has” where we read:
Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he has.
The verse reads, “ Of a truth I say unto you, ...” Luke began with the words, “of a truth” or “in reality and most certainly” “I say unto you” which means “I, Jesus, utter, declare and proclaim to those who are listening to Him”. Luke shared how Jesus began to declare the “reality” for the person whom “the lord” “finds doing” when He returns.
The verse goes on to say, “... that he will make him ruler over all that he has.” Luke continued with the words, “that he will make him ruler” or “that the lord will appoint, constitute, declare and render the faithful and wise steward as administrator and fiduciary” “over all” which means “above each, every, the whole and everyone of the things” “that he has” or “the lord holds, owns and possesses”. Luke shared how the “lord” of the “faithful and wise stewards” will appoint them to be “chief administrators” over everything he owns.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus declared a “reward” for the person who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” and serves Him. Jesus said the “Lord” will “appoint” them to be “over” the things He owns. God wants people to be involved in His Kingdom, and He is looking for their “faithfulness” and “wisdom” in the areas in which they are already involved. Those who carefully consider these things will yield their lives to Him and be “faithful and wise” in whatever they are doing in God's Kingdom.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus tells what happens to the servant who says, “my lord delays his coming”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
