The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus said, “Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat; neither for the body, what you shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them: how much more are you better than the fowls? And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith?”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-nine of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “seek not you what you shall eat, or what you shall drink” where we read:
And seek not you what you shall eat, or what you shall drink, neither be you of doubtful mind.
The verse reads, “And seek not you what you shall eat, or what you shall drink, ...” Luke began with the words, “and seek not you” or “and people who were listening to Jesus were not to meditate upon, reason, enquire into, strive and aim for” “what you shall eat” which means “that which the people could devour or consume”, “or what you shall drink” or “or that which the people could imbibe”. Luke shared how Jesus instructed the people listening to Him not to “strive and aim for” that which they could “eat or drink”.
The verse continues, “... neither be you of doubtful mind.” Luke added the words, “neither be you” or “nor and not in any way were the people listening to Jesus to exist” “of doubtful mind” which means “pertaining to an inflated, prideful, agitated, harassed and anxious way of thinking”. Luke shared how Jesus instructed the people listening to Him not to have “prideful and anxious” thoughts.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus wanted people listening to Him not to “strive and aim” for their “food and drink”, and they were not to have “worried or anxious” thoughts concerning their provision. God promised to take care of people. He created them, and there is no need to worry about what to “eat or drink”. God sent His Son Jesus to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and those who yield their lives to Him will discover His provision for both their “spiritual and physical” needs.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “for all these things do the nations of the world seek after”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
