The beloved physician Luke wrote concerning Jesus, “Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. When once the master of the house is risen up, and has shut to the door, and you begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not who you are. Then shall you begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in your presence, and you have taught in our streets”, and in chapter thirteen and verse twenty-seven of his book Luke shared how Jesus said the Lord, “shall say, I tell you, I know you not who you are” where we read:
But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not from where you are; depart from me, all you workers of iniquity.
The verse reads, “But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not from where you are;” Luke began with the words, “but he shall say” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the master of the house will utter, declare and proclaim”, “I tell you” which means “I, the master of the house, utter, declare and proclaim to those standing outside the house knocking”, “I know you not who you are” or “I, the master of the house, am not aware of, do not consider and perceive where the people outside the door are from”. Luke shared how Jesus said the “master” of the household will declare that He does not know who the people are that are outside the door knocking.
The verse continues, “depart from me, all you workers of iniquity.” Luke added the words, “depart from me” or “withdraw, be removed, exit and revolt from the master of the house”, “all you workers” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of the people who are laborers and perpetrators” “of iniquity” or “pertaining to injustice, unrighteousness and violating of law in their hearts and lives”. Luke shared how Jesus said the “master of the house” would tell the people who were knocking and making excuses outside the door to leave Him as He declared them to be perpetrators of unrighteousness.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn of the rejection of these people who were pleading to be allowed entrance into the dwelling place. There is a time, and people know not when, that God will not allow them to enter into His Kingdom. Because they reject and refuse to receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, God will “reject and refuse” their entrance into Heaven. God wants every person to receive everlasting life with Him, and this is gained by believing in, trusting in, relying upon and clinging to His Son Jesus. Those who are wise will take advantage of the opportunity to receive Jesus or they shall hear some of the most ominous words in the Bible, “depart from me, all you workers of iniquity”.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus tells how, “there shall be weeping an gnashing of teeth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
