Go Tell that Fox Herod - Luke 13:32

The beloved physician Luke wrote how, “there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get you out, and depart from here: for Herod will kill you”, and in chapter thirteen and verse thirty-two of his book Luke shared how Jesus said, “go you, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow” where we read:

And he said unto them, Go you, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils,

and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

The verse reads, “And he said unto them, Go you, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, ...” Luke began with the words, “and he said unto them” or “and Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to the Pharisees”, “Go you” which means “you Pharisees depart and leave”, “and tell that fox” or “and speak and say to that sly or crafty man”, “Behold” which means “lo, look and consider”, “I cast out devils” or “I, Jesus, drive and send out demons or evil spirits with a notion of violence”. Luke shared how Jesus responded to the Pharisees by telling them to “leave Him” and “inform” Herod whom Jesus called a “sly and crafty man” to look and consider that He was “driving out” demons.

The verse goes on to say, “... and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.” Luke continued with the words, “and I do cures” or “and I, Jesus, accomplish, perform, produce, perfect, execute and complete healing acts” “to day and to morrow” which means “within the current sunrise to sunset and within the next day's sunrise to sunset”, “and the third day” or “and upon the third day after the current day” “I shall be perfected” which means “I, Jesus, will be made complete, found perfect and accomplished”. Luke shared how Jesus continued His directives to the Pharisees by including His works of “healing” which were to be performed over the next two days and on the “third day” He was to be “completed” or “made perfect”.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how these Pharisees thought they were bringing Jesus news that would intimidate Him and make Him leave. Jesus was in control, and He had “healing” work to do over the next two days. Herod, whom Jesus considered to be like a fox that is sly and crafty, would not intimidate Him, and Jesus continued His work. God had a plan of “salvation” of mankind through His Son Jesus, and no man, regardless of the position he holds, would sway Him from His mission. God wants to have a personal relationship with every person, and when they yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will never allow anyone to alter His plan to have them with Him for all eternity.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
