What Things Were Done in the Way - Luke 24:35

Luke the beloved physician shared how Jesus said to the two disciples on the way to Emmaus, “O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse thirty-five of his book Luke shared how the disciples say, “the Lord is risen indeed” where we read:

And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

The verse reads,And they told what things were done in the way, ... Luke began with the words, “and they told what things or “and the two disciples recounted, unfolded and declared in a narrative what events and circumstances” “were done in the way” which means “were performed as they traveled and journeyed”. Luke shared how the two disciples “told” the original “eleven disciples” about everything that happened while they were traveling to Emmaus.

The verse goes on to say, “... and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.” Luke continued with the words, “and how he was known of them” which means “and the way in which Jesus was revealed to the two disciples” “in breaking of bread” or “when Jesus broke the bread in front of the two disciples”. Luke shared how the two disciples told the other “eleven” Jesus was revealed to them when He broke “bread” before them.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how the two disciples told the original “eleven” what happened while they were walking with Jesus, and they said Jesus became “known” to them when He “broke the bread” in their presence. God loves people, and His desire is for every person to have a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. Jesus came to die for the sins of the world, and He was resurrected so there could be a promise of eternal life with God. Those who are wise will seek to “know” Him and receive Him as their personal “Lord and Savior”.

Next time Luke shares how the two disciples, “told what things were done in the way”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
