Luke the beloved physician shared how Jesus revealed Himself to the two disciples after they were in Emmaus, and they, “rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon. And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse thirty-six of his book Luke shared how, “Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and said … Peace” where we read:
And as they thus spoke, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them,
and said unto them, Peace be unto you.
The verse reads, “And as they thus spoke, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, ...” Luke began with the words, “and as they thus spoke” or “and while and during the time the two disciples were speaking”, “Jesus himself” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation His own self” “stood in the midst of them” or “was standing in the middle of all the disciples”. Luke shared how Jesus appeared while the two disciples were speaking to His “original eleven disciples and the people with them”.
The verse continues, “... and said unto them, Peace be unto you.” Luke added the words, “and said unto them” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed to His disciples”, “Peace” or “calm, tranquility, harmony and concord” “be unto you” which means “exist among you disciples”. Luke shared how Jesus declared “calm, tranquility and harmony to be upon His “disciples and those with them”.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus interrupted the discourse between the two disciples who walked to Emmaus with Him and the other “eleven disciples and their companions”. It is interesting to think about Jesus suddenly appearing, which would be frightening in itself, and His word to them was “Peace”, however, Jesus is willing to interrupt anyone's life who will allow Him entrance into their hearts. By believing and trusting in Him as their personal “Lord and Savior”, they shall obtain forgiveness of sins, everlasting life with God and peace which only He can provide.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus' disciples, “were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
