In Psalms chapter ten David said, “the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, and … his mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity. He sits in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places does he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor. He lies in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lies in wait to catch the poor: he does catch the poor, when he draws him into his net”, and in Psalms chapter ten and verse ten David said, “He crouches, and humbles himself” where we read,
He crouches, and humbles himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.
The verse begins, “He crouches, and humbles himself, ...” David began with the words, “He crouches” which means “the wicked person collapses or breaks down”, “and humbles himself” or “and bows, prostrates and depresses his, the wicked person's, own self”. David shared how the wicked person bends down low and appears to be depressed for the following reason.
The verse continues, “... that the poor may fall by his strong ones.” David added the words, “that he poor” or “so the afflicted, hapless, unfortunate, weak and needy” “may fall” which means “might be wasted away, made inferior and overthrown” “by his strong ones” or “through the wicked person's mighty, great and numerous ones”. David wrote how the wicked person bends themselves low and appears depressed so the mightier ones among them can conquer the afflicted and weak.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David described the posture of the wicked as they attack the weak and needy. They pretend to be feeble and weak themselves by prostrating themselves and acting humble, but this is only to strike the afflicted with their mightier comrades. In other words, they become actors of weakness to overtake the feeble. Micah the prophet said, “Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand” (See Micah 2:1), and God hates this. God watches over the poor, weak, afflicted and unfortunate, and anyone who takes advantage of them by trickery or acting will give an account of their actions. This is why God sent His Son Jesus into the world. Jesus came to offer salvation for sins, regardless of how big or small they may seem, to every person who believes and trusts in Him as their “Lord and Savior”. He died on the cross to pay the price for every sin, even the ones plotted in advance, and when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with God. Let us give praise to God for revealing the pernicious acts of the wicked, and realize except that we yield to Him, we are among those who pretend to be one way when we are actually the opposite.
Next time David says, “He has said in his heart, God has forgotten”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
