In Psalms chapter ten David asked, “Why stand you afar off, O LORD? why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? The wicked in his pride does persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined. For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, and blesses the covetous, whom the LORD abhors”, and in Psalms chapter ten and verse four David said, “The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God” where we read,
The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God:
God is not in all his thoughts.
The verse begins, “The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God:” David began with the words, “the wicked” which means “the person who is criminal, guilty of sin and hostile to God”, “through the pride” or “by way of height, exaltation, grandeur and haughtiness” “of his countenance” which means “belonging to his, the wicked person's, anger and ire which are manifested by wrinkled nostrils or a nose”, “will not seek after God” or “shall in no way resort to, consult and inquire of the divine ruler and judge who is the true Supreme God”. David shared how people who “pridefully” commit evil and wrong will in no way resort to or inquire of the One True God.
The verse continues, “God is not in all his thoughts.” David added the words, “God is not” or “the divine ruler and judge who is the True Supreme God is in no way” “in all his thoughts” which means “within each, every, the whole and everyone of the wicked person's thinking, purpose, discretion, devises and plots”. David wrote how the “True Supreme God” is in no way within the devises and plots of people who pridefully commit “wickedness”.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David understood that “wicked” people perform their acts and deeds with “pride”. Because they believe themselves self sufficient, they have no need to ask anything of the One True Supreme God. This is not God's desire. He wants people to humble themselves and come to Him. He provided His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Jesus, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life with Him. We submit to God's plan of salvation and redemption of people when we humble ourselves, turn from our wicked ways and allow Him to renew our thoughts, attitudes and actions to be in alignment with Him. Praise be to God for His warnings and encouragement to not be as the “wicked”, but rather surrender ourselves to the omniscient God who knows best for our lives.
Next time David says about the wicked, “His ways are always grievous”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
