Sitting in Lurking Places - Psalms 10:8

In Psalms chapter ten David said, “the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, and blesses the covetous, whom the LORD abhors. The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts. His ways are always grievous; your judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffs at them. He has said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity. His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity”, and in Psalms chapter ten and verse eight David said, “He sits in the lurking places of the villages where we read,

He sits in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places does he murder the innocent:

his eyes are privily set against the poor.

The verse begins, He sits in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places does he murder the innocent:” David began with the words, “He sits in the lurking places” which means “the wicked person is seated, fixed and established within the blinds, ambuscade and locations of lying in wait” “of the villages” or “belonging to the town, settlement and abode”: “in the secret places” which means “within the hiding, concealed and covert locations” “does he murder the innocent” or “does the wicked person slay, destroy and kill people who are clean, free from guilt and exempt from obligations”. David shared how the wicked person is seated in the blinds and locations of lying in wait as well as the concealed places to “kill, destroy and take advantage” of “guiltless people”.

The verse continues, his eyes are privily set against the poor.David added the words, “his eyes” or “the wicked person's physical eyes” “are privily set against the poor” which means “are treasured up, stored and lurking in opposition to people who are hapless, unfortunate and helpless”. David wrote how the “eyes” of the wicked person are “lurking” in opposition to people who are unfortunate and helpless.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn from David how the wicked person positions themselves in hiding, so they can destroy the guiltless and take advantage of people who are unfortunate and helpless. God hates this, and His desire is not only to protect people who have lesser means, but also to save people from all stations of life. Wickedness is rampant throughout the world, and because people are “sinners”, they act in pernicious ways. They take advantage of people who are “innocent” and “unfortunate”, and they need to be “redeemed” from their sinful lives. Jesus Christ, God's Son, was sent to the world to die for the sins of all mankind, and when we submit our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us eternal life and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (See 1 John 1:9). Let this be our motivation to give praise to the Lord for His provision for the innocent, the guiltless, the helpless, the unfortunate and the wicked who may all be changed when they yield themselves to Jesus.

Next time David says, He lies in wait secretly as a lion in his den, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
