In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul”, and in chapter twenty-nine and verse eleven of Proverbs Solomon said, “a fool utters all his mind” where we read,
A fool utters all his mind:
but a wise man keeps it in till afterwards.
The verse begins, “A fool utters all his mind:” Solomon began with the words, “a fool” or “a person who is an arrogant dullard, simpleton and a stupid-fellow” “utters all his mind” which means “speaks, declares and proclaims each, every, the whole and everything within their disposition or spirit”. Solomon said a person who is an arrogant dullard speaks each and everything within their spirit.
The verse continues, “but a wise man keeps it in till afterwards.” Solomon added the words, “but a wise man” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover a person whether male or female who is skilled, shrewd and prudent” “keeps it in” which means “commends, lauds, boasts and praises what is within their mind” “till afterwards” or “until the backside, hinder part and in the time to come”. Solomon said a person who is shrewd and prudent retrains themselves from speaking what is within their “mind” until a future time.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how people who are simpletons speak everything within their thoughts immediately, however, a person who is shrewd holds on to their thoughts until a later time. God wants us to be wise with our words like He is, and He desires to have an intimate personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to know when to speak and when to restrain from speaking until a later time.
Next time Solomon shares what happens, “if a ruler hearkens to lies”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
