A Partner With a Thief - Proverbs 29:24

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A man's pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit”, and in chapter twenty-nine and verse twenty-four of Proverbs Solomon said, “whoso is partner with a thief hates his own soul” where we read,

Whoso is partner with a thief hates his own soul:

he hears cursing, and bewrays it not.

The verse begins, Whoso is partner with a thief hates his own soul: Solomon began with the words, “whoso is partner” or “whatever person whether male or female exists apportioned, assigned and receives a portion” “with a thief” which means “alongside a person who robs and steals ” “hates his own soul” or “is odious and as an enemy and foe to his, the person's, own personal heart, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections”. Solomon said whoever aligns themselves with a robber becomes an enemy to their own heart, mind and will.

The verse goes on to say, “he hears cursing, and bewrays it not. Solomon continued with the words, “he hears cursing” or “he, the person who is partner with a thief, listens to, perceives and gives heed to execration, imprecation and abomination”, “and bewrays it not” which means “and does not make the abomination known, declared, reported or informed to anyone about it” . Solomon said the person who aligns themselves with a “thief” becomes aware of the truth, but they reveal nothing.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how anyone who apportions themselves with robbers and thieves are odious to themselves, and when they are aware of the truth or abominations, they refuse to testify about them. God wants us to avoid people who steal, and when we are exposed to the truth, we are to disclose and inform others of what we know. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide His Holy Spirit to help us avoid thieves and to declare abominations when we “hear” them.

Next time Solomon says, “the fear of man brings a snare”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
