In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increases: but the righteous shall see their fall”, and in chapter twenty-nine and verse seventeen of Proverbs Solomon said, “correct your son, and he shall give you rest” where we read,
Correct your son, and he shall give you rest;
he shall give delight unto your soul.
The verse begins, “Correct your son, and he shall give you rest;” Solomon began with the words, “correct your son” or “chasten, discipline, instruct and admonish your, Solomon's readers and listeners', male progeny and offspring”, “and he shall give you rest” which means “and Solomon's readers and listeners' male offspring will bestow, provide and consecrate to you, Solomon's readers and listeners, repose, quiet and peace”. Solomon instructed his readers and listeners to instruct and discipline their male child, and peace and quiet would be given to them.
The verse continues, “he shall give delight unto your soul.” Solomon added the words, “he shall give delight” or “he, the male offspring of Solomon's readers and listeners, will bestow, provide and consecrate cheer, pleasure and joy” “unto your soul” which means “to your, Solomon's readers and listeners', heart, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections”. Solomon said the son of his readers and listeners would provide joy to their hearts, souls and minds as they corrected him.
When we think through the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how we are to disciple and instruct our children, and the result will peace and joy to our hearts and minds. God wants us to learn how to guide children according to His ways, and when we yield to Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us how to receive peace and joy within our “souls” because we have instructed children in keeping with His word.
Next time Solomon says, “where there is no vision, the people perish”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
