Hasty with Words - Proverbs 29:20

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer”, and in chapter twenty-nine and verse twenty of Proverbs Solomon asked, “see you a man that is hasty in his words?” where we read,

See you a man that is hasty in his words?

There is more hope of a fool than of him.

The verse begins, See you a man that is hasty in his words? Solomon began with the words, “see you a man” or “do you, Solomon's readers and listeners, observe, notice, perceive and discern a person whether male or female” “that is hasty” which means “who exists as pressed, urgent and insistent” “in his words” or “within their, the person's, utterances, declarations and proclamations”? Solomon asked whether his readers and listeners considered a person who speaks in an urgent and insistent manner.

The verse goes on to say, “There is more hope of a fool than of him. Solomon continued with the words, “there is more hope” or “there exists a greater cord or expectation” “of a fool” which means “belonging to a person who is an arrogant dullard, simpleton and stupid fellow” “than of him” or “compared to the person who is hasty in their words”. Solomon said there exists a greater expectancy within a person who is a simpleton compared to the person who makes urgent and insistent utterances.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there is a greater expectancy within the person who is a simpleton than the person who speaks without thinking. God wants us to learn to speak and hope according to His ways, and because we have sin in our lives, we are unable to have a personal relationship with Him. This is why He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to be “slow to speak” and “hope” according to His perfect manner and way. (See James 1:19)

Next time Solomon shares about, “he that delicately brings up his servant from a child”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
