A Servant Becoming a Son - Proverbs 29:21

In the book of Proverbs Solomon asked, “See you a man that is hasty in his words? There is more hope of a fool than of him”, and in chapter twenty-nine and verse twenty-one of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “he that delicately brings up his servant from a child” where we read,

He that delicately brings up his servant from a child

shall have him become his son at the length.

The verse begins, He that delicately brings up his servant from a child ... Solomon began with the words, “he that delicately brings up his servant” or “the person whether male or female who carefully indulges, pampers and enervate their person of servile condition, bondman or slave” “from a child” which means “from their youth or childhood”. Solomon referred to the person who carefully pampers their bondman from the time they are young which shall have the following result.

The verse continues, “... shall have him become his son at the length. Solomon added the words, “shall have him” or “will hold and possess him, the servant, to” “become his son” which means “his, the person who has the servant's, male progeny and offspring” “at the length” or “in the after part, end, latter time and residue”. Solomon said the “servant” who “delicately brings up his servant from a child” will have the servant be like his “son” unto the latter and end time.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there is a great benefit to caring for people who are in servile condition. For the person who carefully attends to them from the time they are children, they will be like their child for all their lives. God wants us to treat others in a good way, and when we are like Him, we will care for others when they are our employees, servants or in other servile positions. God loves us, and He proved His love by sending His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us by His Holy Spirit how to care for people over whom we have been given authority so they will be like family forever.

Next time Solomon says, “an angry man stirs up strife”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
