A Hundred and Fifty Three Fish - John 21:11

John the apostle wrote how Jesus revealed Himself to His disciples on the sea shore and told His disciples, “Bring of the fish which you have now caught”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse eleven of his book John shared how the disciples caught, “a hundred and fifty and three” fish where we read:

Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three:

and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.

The verse begins, “Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three:” John began with the words, “Simon Peter went up” which means “Simon whose name means a little rock, Peter which means a little rock or stone, sprung up and arose”, “and drew the net to land” or “and pulled or hauled the fishing seine or net to the sea shore or beach” “full of great fishes” which means “filled and replete with massive, large and numerous amount of fish from the sea”, “an hundred and fifty and three” or “one hundred and fifty three fish”. John shared how “Simon Peter” arose and began to pull the net of massive fish in with the other disciples, and they counted them to discover there were one hundred and fifty three fish.

The verse continues, “and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.” John added the words, “and for all there were so many” “and even though there was such a great haul and quantity of fish”, “yet was not the net broken” which means “still the fishing seine or net was not cleaved asunder, split into factions or divided”. John shared even though there was such a great haul of fish, the fishing net in which the disciples caught them was not “split into factions or divided”.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how there was such a massive catch of large fish that “Simon Peter” had to help the other disciples haul them into shore. When they counted them, the disciples found there were one hundred and fifty three fish, and though there were so many, their “fishing net” did not break. God was at work through His Son Jesus, and this miracle occurred after Jesus died upon the cross and was risen from the dead. God loves people, and His desire is to have a blessed and glorious relationship with every one of them through His Son Jesus. Those who submit themselves to Jesus will be granted blessing after blessing by His presence with them. Let all who read these words surrender to Jesus who is able to produce abundant blessings that require others to help haul it in.

Next time John shares how Jesus tells His disciples, “come and dine”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
