It is Not for You to Know the Times or Seasons - Acts 1:7

Luke the physician wrote how Jesus' disciples asked Him, “Lord, will you at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?”, and in chapter one and verse seven of the book of Acts Luke wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “it is not for you to know the times or the seasons” where we read:

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons,

which the Father has put in his own power.

The verse begins, “And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, ...” Luke began with the words, “and he said unto them” which means “and he, Jesus, uttered, declared and proclaimed to His disciples”, “It is not for you to know” or “it is not for you, Jesus' disciples, to understand, perceive or discern” “the times” which means “the space of time or occasion” “or the seasons” which refers to “the due measure, fixed and definite time or opportune period of time”. Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples the “times and seasons” were not for them to understand or perceive.

The verse goes on to say, “... which the Father has put in his own power.” Luke continued with the words, “which the Father” or “that the Heavenly Father God” “has put in his own power” which means “has placed, set, laid aside and makes within His own strength, ability, choice and authority”. Luke shared how Jesus said God the Heavenly Father has place the “times and seasons” within His own strength, ability and authority.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus' “disciples” were not to “know” the “times and seasons” because they were in God's power and authority. Although they wanted to know the future, Jesus informed them that was God's business. The Eternal God Almighty, the Creator of the Universe, knows how and when all the events will happen upon the earth, and they are His alone to oversee. Those who are wise will yield their lives to His Son Jesus and rely upon the fact that God Almighty has all the other events in His control.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus tells His disciples, “you shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
