Bread and Fish Given - John 21:13

John the apostle wrote how Jesus revealed Himself to His disciples on the sea shore and told His disciples, “Bring of the fish which you have now caught. Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken. Jesus said unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples did ask him, Who are you? knowing that it was the Lord”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse thirteen of his book John shared how Jesus, “took bread, and gave to them, and fish likewise” where we read:

Jesus then came, and took bread, and gave to them, and fish likewise.

The verse begins, “Jesus then came, and took bread, and gave to them, ...” John began with the words, “then Jesus came” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation at that time arose and appeared”, “and took bread” or “and lay hold of, procured and claimed flour mixed with water and baked”, “and gave to them” which means “and granted, bestowed, supplied and furnished bread to them, Jesus' disciples”. John shared how “Jesus” arose, procured “bread” and furnished it to His disciples.

The verse continues, “... and fish likewise.” John added the words, “and fish” which refers to “fish of the sea” “likewise” or “in the same manner and likeness”. John shared how “Jesus” also gave His disciples the “fish” He cooked upon the burning coals.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus began to “feed” His disciples after His invitation for them to “come and dine” with Him. Jesus cared for the physical needs of His disciples, and He cares for the needs of every person. His desire is for everyone to believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and when they submit their lives to Him, not only does He care for them spiritually, but He also promised to provide every need according to His riches in glory. (See Philippians 4:19)

Next time John shares, “this is now is the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
