Jesus' Words to His Mother - John 19:26

The apostle John wrote how, “there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty-six of his book John shared what Jesus did when, “saw his mother” where we read:

When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved,

he said unto his mother, Woman, behold your son!

The verse reads, “When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, ...” John began with the words, “When Jesus therefore” which means “at the time and moment the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation then, wherefore and on this account” “saw his mother” or “observed, beheld and noticed his, Jesus', immediately female ancestor and progenitor”, “and the disciple standing by” which means “and the student, pupil and attendant present and at hand”, “whom he loved” or “with whom he, Jesus, was well-pleased, fond of and dearly loved”. John shared how Jesus observed His “mother” standing near His cross and His “disciple”, John whom Jesus loved, standing near her.

The verse goes on to say “... he said unto his mother, Woman, behold your son!” John continued with the words, “he said unto his mother” or “he, Jesus, uttered, declared and proclaimed to his, Jesus', immediate female ancestor and progenitor”, “Woman” which means “widowed female”, “behold your son” or “lo, look at and consider your, Mother of Jesus, male offspring and descendant”! John shared how Jesus told His “mother” to consider her “son” who was His disciple John.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus observed His “mother” beneath His cross. We can only imagine the grief the mother of Jesus felt as she watched her son being crucified, and Jesus' disciple John was nearby her so Jesus cared for His mother by providing for her through His disciple John. God loves people, and when they submit to His Son Jesus, He allows them in His Kingdom and uses them to obtain the salvation of mankind. Let all who read these words consider the care Jesus extended toward His mother and seek to be the same toward everyone who yields to Him.

Next time John shares how Jesus said to John, “Behold your mother”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
