Jesus Standing on the Shore - John 21:4

John the apostle wrote how, “Simon Peter said unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with you. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse four of his book John shared how, “Jesus stood on the shore” where we read:

But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore:

but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.

The verse begins, “But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore:” John began with the words, “but when the morning was now come” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover at the time and moment the early part of the day or at dawn appeared, happened and came into existence”, “Jesus stood on the shore” or “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation was standing upon the sea shore or beach”. John shared how “Jesus” was “standing upon the sea shore” very early in the morning after the disciples had been fishing.

The verse goes on to say, “but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.” John added the words, “but the disciples” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the students, pupils and attendants of Jesus” “knew not that it was Jesus” which means “did not perceive, understand or have knowledge that the person standing on the sea shore was the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”. John shared how “Jesus' disciples” had no idea the person standing on the sea shore was Him.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we see how “Jesus” knew the whereabouts of His disciples. He stood on the shore or beach of the sea of Tiberias while they were fishing. Jesus will call out to and reveal Himself to them in our next verse, but let us realize Jesus knows the location of every person in the world. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die for their sins and grant them everlasting life by dying on the cross and being raised from the dead. Every person who perceives the presence of Jesus and yields their life to Him will be forgiven of their sins and live with God forever in Heaven. In a sense, Jesus is standing upon the shore of the heart of every person, and those who will recognize and surrender to Him will be saved.

Next time John shares how Jesus asks His disciples who were fishing, “have you any meat?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
