It is the Lord - John 21:7

John the apostle wrote about Jesus' disciples, “Simon Peter said unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with you. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus. Then Jesus said unto them, Children, have you any meat? They answered him, No. And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and you shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse seven of his book John shared how he, “said unto Peter, it is the Lord” where we read:

Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.

The verse begins, “Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said unto Peter, It is the Lord.” John began with the words, “therefore that disciple” which means “then, wherefore, consequently and on this account the student, pupil and attendant” “whom Jesus loved” or “that the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation was fond of, loved dearly and was well pleased and contented with” “said unto Peter” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed to Peter whose name means a little rock or stone”, “it is the Lord” or “the one standing upon the sea shore who instructed them is Jesus who is the One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master, and the title given to God the Messiah”. John shared how he himself recognized that it was Jesus who was standing upon the sea shore after they caught so many fish, and he told “Peter” that it was Jesus.

The verse continues, “Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.” John added the words, “now when Simon Peter” “moreover at that time and moment Simon whose name means a little rock, Peter which means a little rock or stone” “heard that it was the Lord” which means “was endowed with the faculty of hearing, perceiving and understanding that it was the One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master, and the title given to God the Messiah or Jesus”, “he girt his fisher's coat unto him” or “he, Peter, wrapped and bound his body with his upper garment which was a frock fishermen used to wear at their work”, (“for he was naked” which means “because, since and on account that Peter was clad in undergarments only”) “and did cast himself into the sea” which means “and threw his own self into the large body of water in which Jesus' disciples were fishing – the sea of Tiberias”. John shared how “Peter” took action after he heard John say the Lord was on the sea shore by throwing himself into the “sea” to go to Jesus.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn not only how John himself perceived it was Jesus upon the sea shore, but after telling “Peter” what he discovered, “Peter” dove into the sea to swim to Jesus. John continues to make people aware of the Lord to this day as he wrote these words to let everyone who reads them know that Jesus is the Christ, Messiah, Son of God and Savior of the world. Every person who believes and trusts in Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. Let all who read these words hear the words of John, “It is the Lord” and submit their lives to Him.

Next time John shares how, “the other disciples came in a little ship”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
