Many Other Things Jesus Did - John 21:25

John the apostle wrote how Jesus told Peter, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, When you were young, you girded yourself, and walked wherever you would: but when you shall be old, you shall stretch forth your hands, and another shall gird you, and carry you where you would not. This spoke he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he said unto him, Follow me. Then Peter, turning about, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrays you? Peter seeing him said to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? Jesus said unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to you? You follow me. Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to you? This is the disciple which testifies of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse twenty-five of his book John shared how, “there are also many other things which Jesus did” where we read:

And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

The verse begins, “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, ...” John began with the words, “and there are also many other things” which means “and there existed even so and indeed lots, abundant and copious deeds and acts” “which Jesus did” or “that Jesus who is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation made ready, performed and produced”. John shared how there were an abundance of “other” deeds, acts and activities in which Jesus was involved.

The verse continues, “... the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.” John added the words, “the which” or “that”, “if they should be written every one” which means “whether and in case each and all of the works, acts and deeds of Jesus could be inscribed, formed or delineated in letters upon a tablet, parchment, paper or other material”, “I suppose that even the world itself” or “I, John, think and imagine the entire circle of the earth with all it's goods, endowments, riches, advantages and pleasures” “could not contain the books” which means “would be unable to have space for, betake and have room for the scrolls, written documents and rolls” “that should be written” or “that ought to be inscribed, formed or delineated in letters upon a tablet, parchment, paper or other material”. “Amen” which means “so be it, let it be so and may it be fulfilled”. John shared how the whole “world” would not have room for all the “writings” that ought to be “written” about Jesus.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how John gave witness to the fact that Jesus performed so many acts and deeds while He was on the earth that the whole world would not have enough room to store all that should be written about Him. Jesus was sent to the earth to die for the sins of the whole world, and when He rose from the dead three days later, He made a way for every person who believes in Him to be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life. John wrote this gospel or “good news” about Jesus Christ so people would believe and trust in Him. Those who are wise will read and seek to understand all the words John wrote about Jesus and put their faith and trust in Him.

Next time we begin the book of Acts of the apostles and see the beginning of the church, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
