Go Home and Show - Luke 8:39

Luke the beloved physician wrote, “Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, ...” the following words, and in chapter eight and verse thirty-nine of his book Luke shared how Jesus told the man, “return to your own house, and show how great things God has done unto you” where we read:

Return to your own house, and show how great things God has done unto you. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.

The verse reads, “Return to your own house, and show how great things God has done unto you. Luke began with the words, “return to your own house” or “turn back to the man's own home, dwelling place and habitation”, “and show how great things” which means “and set forth, recount, relate in full and describe the wonderful and awesome things” “God has done unto you” or “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit performed, made ready and produced for the man who was demon possessed”. Luke shared how Jesus told the man to go home and tell others what wonderful acts “God” did for him.

The verse goes on to say, “And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.” Luke continued with the words “and he went his way” which means “and the man who was delivered from demons left, departed and went forth”, “and published” or “and heralded, proclaimed openly and preached” “throughout the whole city” which means “down from and toward the entire and complete dwelling places, towns and habitations” “how great things” or “the wonderful and awesome acts” “Jesus” who is “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “had done unto him” or “performed, produced and made ready for the man”. Luke shared how the man who was delivered from “demons” went throughout the “city” publishing, heralding and preaching about what Jesus did for him.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see how the man who was delivered from “Legion” became an “evangelist” concerning what Jesus did for him. This is the response of most everyone who truly realizes the deliverance from sin Jesus provides, and when He forgives and promises them “everlasting life”, they want everyone to know about it. God desires for every person to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and those who are wise will not only receive Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, but also tell everyone about His wonderful works performed unto them.

Next time Luke shares, “when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him:”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
