People Gladly Receiving Jesus - Luke 8:40

The beloved physician Luke wrote, “Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, Return to your own house, and show how great things God has done unto you. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him”, and in chapter eight and verse forty of his book Luke shared, “when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him” where we read:

And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him:

for they were all waiting for him.

The verse reads,And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: Luke began with the words, “and it came to pass” or “and it happened and came into existence”, “that, when Jesus” which means “that, at the time and moment Jesus who is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “was returned” or “turned and came back”, “the people gladly received him” which means “the people both male and female joyfully accepted and took Jesus fully among them”. Luke shared how the people who were in Galilee “accepted” Jesus with joy when He came back from the area of the “Gadarenes”.

The verse continues, “for they were all waiting for him.” Luke added the words “for they were all waiting” which means “because, since and on account that each, every, the whole and everyone of the people were expecting, looking and hoping” “for him” or “for Jesus”. Luke shared how “all” the people were “expecting” Jesus as He came into their area again.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see the reaction of the people whom Jesus left to go to the “Gadarenes”. The people in the area of the “Gadarenes” rejected Jesus, but the ones back in Galilee were “joyfully” expecting Him. God knows there are people who will reject His Son Jesus even though He is available to everyone, and He knows there are people who will “gladly receive” His Son as their personal “Savior and Lord”. When a person examines the two different reactions to Jesus, the wise person will be as the people were in Galilee.

Next time Luke shares how, “there came a man named Jairus”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
