Luke the beloved physician wrote concerning Jesus, “when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they tread one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware you of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known”, and in chapter twelve and verse three of his book Luke shared how Jesus said to His disciples, “whatsoever you have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light” where we read:
Therefore whatsoever you have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light;
and that which you have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.
The verse reads, “Therefore whatsoever you have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light;” Luke began with the words, “therefore whatsoever you have spoken” or “consequently, then, wherefore and accordingly what ever the people assembled around Jesus have uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “in darkness” which means “ in obscurity and ignorance of divine things and its associated wickedness” “shall be heard” or “will be endowed with the faculty for hearing, perceived, learned, comprehended and understood” “in the light” which means “within the lamp, torch, brightness and spiritual purity associated with it”. Luke shared how Jesus said anything people have “spoken” in “obscurity” will be brought into the “bright” openness.
The verse continues, “and that which you have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.” Luke added the words, “and that which you have spoken” or “and anything the people listening to Jesus have uttered, declared and proclaimed” “in the ear in closets” which means “within the physical ear and inside secret chambers or storerooms” “shall be proclaimed” or “will be heralded, published and preached” “upon the housetops” which means “on the top of houses or roofs”. Luke shared how Jesus said anything that a person “speaks into the ear” within their “secret chambers” will be loudly announced upon the roofs of houses.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn discover how Jesus said there will be an open “proclamation” of the “secrets” people speak in the dark or in “secret chambers”. God knows every word people say, and even when they believe they have “hidden” their words in “darkness” or spoken them in the “secret chambers”, they shall be “heralded” from the “housetops”. God desires to “save” people from their “words” that cause them to “sin” or be involved in “sin”, and when they yield their lives to God's Son Jesus Christ as their “Savior and Lord”, He is willing to “forgive their sins” and give to them “everlasting life”.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus says to His disciples, “be not afraid of them that kill the body”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
