In Psalms chapter thirty seven David said, “The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his tongue talks of judgment. The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide”, and in chapter thirty seven and verse thirty-two of Psalms David said, “the wicked watches the righteous” where we read,
The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to slay him.
The verse begins, “The wicked watches the righteous, ...” David began with the words, “the wicked watches” or “the person who is criminal, ungodly, guilty of sin and hostile to God and others keeps watch, spies and closely observes” “the righteous” which means “the people who are just, right, correct and lawful”. David said people who are guilty of sin, evil and hostile to God and others observe people who are just, correct, right and lawful before God.
The verse continues, “... and seeks to slay him.” David added the words, “and seeks” or “and desires, asks and strives” “to slay him” which means “to kill, put to death and destroy him, the righteous person whether male or female”. David said the person who is ungodly desires to destroy people who are right, just and correct before Jehovah God.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see through David how people who are evil and ungodly not only observe those who are just and godly, but they do so because they desire to have them destroyed. “Wicked” people hate the way “righteous” people make them feel, and because they are often made “guilty” and “shamed” by the goodness of godly people, they want them removed. There is at least one problem for them according to Paul the Apostle, “There is none righteous, no, not one” (See Romans 3:10), and “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23). In other words, everyone is wicked and ungodly before they receive Jesus Christ as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Jesus came into the world to die for the sins of all mankind, and without receiving Him, no one is “righteous”. (See John 3:17) Everyone is invited to receive righteous Jesus who for our sakes became sin when He died on the cross, and when we accept Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will make us be like the people the ungodly and wicked desire to destroy. (See 2 Corinthians 5:21)
Next time David says, “the LORD will not leave him in his hand”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
