In Psalms chapter thirty seven David said, “The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to slay him. The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged”, and in chapter thirty seven and verse thirty-four of Psalms David said, “wait on the LORD, and keep his way” where we read,
Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt you to inherit the land:
when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.
The verse begins, “Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt you to inherit the land:” David began with the words, “wait on the LORD” or “eagerly look for, hope and expect Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God”, “and keep his way” which means “and guard, observe, give heed to and have charge of his, Jehovah God's, road, path, direction, journey and manner”, “and he shall exalt you” or “and he, Jehovah God, will raise up, uplift and extol you, people who are reading and listening to David's words” “to inherit the land” which means “to seize, take possession of and occupy the country, territory, region and earth”. David instructed his readers and listeners to eagerly look for Jehovah God and to observe His direction and manner, and when they do, they will be uplifted and gain possession of the earth.
The verse continues, “when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.” David added the words, “when the wicked” or “at the time and moment people who are criminal, ungodly, guilty of sin and hostile to God and others” “are cut off” which means “are eliminated, killed, beheaded and destroyed”, “you shall see it” or “you, people reading and listening to David's words, will look at, perceive, consider and regard the wicked being eliminated”. David said at the time and moment people who are ungodly and hostile to God and others are eliminated and destroyed, the people reading David's words would observe their destruction.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see David's instruction to the people who were reading and listening to his words. David told them to “eagerly look for” Jehovah God, and follow His manner of living. When they obeyed these directives, David said Jehovah God would not only “uplift” them, but would also grant them the possession of the earth and hey would observe the time when Jehovah God will eliminate the “wicked”. God's invitation is for every person to receive His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”, and when they do, the righteousness of Jesus is placed upon them. (See 2 Corinthians 5:21) They will “eagerly” look for Jehovah God and His ways, and they will gain the possession of the earth and Heaven. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God for His provision to be among those who walk with Him, and may we never align ourselves with people who are ungodly and hostile to Him.
Next time David says, “I have seen the wicked in great power”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
