In Psalms chapter thirty seven David said, “Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt you to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it”, and in chapter thirty seven and verse thirty-five of Psalms David said, “I have seen the wicked in great power” where we read,
I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.
The verse begins, “I have seen the wicked in great power, ...” David began with the words, “I have seen the wicked” or “I, David, have observed, notice, discovered and discerned people who are criminal, ungodly, unlawful and hostile to God and others” “in great power” which means “as awesome, terrifying, ruthless, mighty, terrible and oppressive”. David told how he observed people who were evil, unlawful and ungodly who were ruthless, terrible and oppressive in their positions of authority.
The verse goes on to say, “... and spreading himself like a green bay tree.” David continued with the words, “and spreading himself” or “uncovering, razing and exposing his or her own self” “like a green bay tree” which means “in likeness and similar to a luxuriant or fresh native tree with spontaneous growth”. David said the “wicked” people were uncovering and razing their own selves like they were a native tree with spontaneous growth.
When we meditate upon words in this verse, we see how David remembered when he observed people who are “wicked and ruthless” holding positions of great might and authority, and they made themselves known like a flourishing tree planted within it's native soil. “Wicked” people sometimes hold positions of authority, and because there is no power that is given to people unless God Himself puts them in those positions, it is sometimes very difficult to understand why they remain. Jehovah God, however, is Supreme in power and authority, and He gave His Son Jesus to the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind. His power to forgive sins and grant everlasting life is available to everyone, and anyone who yields themselves to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will receive His favor. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for His authority over all others even though it appears they reign in authority for a time.
Next time David says, “Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
