An Angel Standing in the Sun Revelation 19:17

An “angel” from heaven showed John the apostle many things which will occur in the tribulation time on the earth, and John wrote about commercial Babylon's destruction and the people who were affected by it. John wrote about great worship which occurred in heaven afterward and then shared, “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he does judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treads the wine-press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God” and how Jesus had on his “vesture” and “thigh”, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS”. In Revelation chapter nineteen and verse seventeen John sees, “an angel standing in the sun” where we read:

And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;

The verse reads, And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, ... John began with the words, “and I saw” which means “John perceived, noticed, discovered and discerned” “an angel” or “a messenger, envoy or one sent” “standing” which means “placed, put, set, made firm and established” “in the sun” which means “within the sun that lights the day”; “and he cried” or “the angel vociferated, spoke aloud, shrieked and exclaimed” “with a loud voice” which means “using a massive, abundant and great tone or sound of uttered words”, “saying” or “uttering, declaring and proclaiming” “to all” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of” “the fowls” or “the birds” “that fly” which means “that take flight” “in the midst of heaven” which refers to “the mid-heaven or highest point in the heavens which the sun occupies at noon”. John saw another “messenger” from God who “stood” within the “sun” and called out loudly to all the “birds” in the sky.

The verse goes on to say, “... Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;” John continued with the word, “come” which means “come here and now” “and gather yourselves together” which means “assemble, collect, join together by convoking and meet as one” “unto the supper” or “ a formal meal especially with food taken at evening” “of the great God” which refers to “pertaining to the massive, extensive, spacious and abundant Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. The “angel” called an assembly of all the “birds” in the sky to God's “evening meal”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we see the gathering of all the “birds” in the sky for a great feast upon the earth. The idea of an “angel standing in the sun” may disturb some who read about him, however, when we consider that “angels” are spiritual, and the “sun” is physical, there should be no problem at all. God desires for people to know Him personally through a relationship with His Son Jesus, and when this invitation for the “fowls” to assemble occurs, those who know Him shall ride upon “white horses” with Jesus and watch as they gather together.

Next time John sees, “that you may eat the flesh of kings … captains ...mighty men and horses”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
