The Bride Arrayed with White Linen Revelation 19:8

An “angel” from heaven showed John the apostle many things which will occur in the tribulation time on the earth, and John wrote about commercial Babylon's destruction and the people who were affected by it. John continued to write, “And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honor, and power, unto the Lord our God: For true and righteous are his judgments: for he has judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and has avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever .And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshiped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all you his servants, and you that fear him, both small and great. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigns. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife has made herself ready”, and in Revelation chapter nineteen and verse eight John shares how “to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen” where we read:

And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white:
for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

The verse reads, And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: John began with the words, “and to her” which means “and to the bride which is the church” “was granted” or “to give, bestow, supply and furnish” “that she should be arrayed” which means “that the bride should be clothed” “in fine linen” or “garments made of fine linen cloth”. John saw how the “bride of Christ” was to be dressed in “fine” “clean and white” linen.

The verse goes on to say, “for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. John continued with the words, “for the fine linen” which means “because and since the garments made of fine linen cloth“is the righteousness” or “that which is deemed right, been established and ordained” “of saints” which means “pertaining to the pure, morally blameless and religiously and ceremonially consecrated ones”. The “fine linen” granted to the “bride of Christ” was “that which is deemed right and the established law of God”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we see how the “bride”, the church, is to be adorned with “fine linen” which is “God's righteousness”. The “bride” was “granted” the “white linen” or the “God's righteousness” which comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ. It is by God's grace that people gain God's “righteousness”, and this scene in heaven is a great depiction of what those who believe and trust in Jesus receive. God desires to clothe everyone with His “righteousness”, and all who call upon Him to be their personal “Savior and Lord” shall surely receive it as His “bride”.

Next time John is told to, “write, blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
