Who is the Woman with Seven Heads and Ten Horns? Revelation 17:7

As John continued to share concerning the events during the tribulation, He wrote about the antichrist, the false prophet and the angels who were involved in the reaping of the harvest of believers who received the Lord Jesus during that time. John wrote about the seven angels who “poured out” their “vials” filled with the “wrath of God” upon the earth, sea, atmosphere and cities. He added, “And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come here; I will show unto you the judgment of the great whore that sits upon many waters: with whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet colored beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration”, and in chapter seventeen and verse seven of Revelation the angel tells John, “I will tell you the mystery of the woman” where we read:

And the angel said unto me, Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and ten horns.

The verse reads, And the angel said unto me, Why did you marvel? John began with the words, “and the angel” which means “and the messenger, envoy and one sent” “said” or “uttered, proclaimed and declared” “unto me” which means “to John”, “why” which means “for what reason and cause” “did you marvel” or “did John wonder and be amazed”? The “angel” sent to John asked him why he “was amazed and wondered” at the “bloodshed” caused by the “woman” named “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT”.

The verse continues, “I will tell you the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and ten horns. John added the words “I will tell you” which means “the angel was going to utter, declared, proclaim and disclose to John” “the mystery” or “the hidden and secret purpose and counsel” “of the woman” which means “belonging to the female revealed to John”, “and of the beast” or “and pertaining to the wild and ferocious living being” “that carries her” which means “who bears up, upholds and carries the woman”, “which has the seven heads” or “who has seven chief and prominent positions” “and ten horns” which means “apexes or pointed extremities in the shape of a horn which are symbols of strength and courage”. The “angel” told John that he would reveal what the “mystery, the beast, the seven heads and ten horns” represented.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we notice there is a description of the “woman, the beast” and the “seven heads and ten horns” coming from the angel. When the scriptures define what the symbols used are implying, we no longer need to speculate or wonder. God desires to have a relationship with every person through His Son Jesus Christ, and as we read His word and discover what He has relayed through His servants in the scriptures, we are able to know some of His plan for the future. Let everyone who reads these words know that God loves them and wants them to yield their lives to Him. May today be the day when those who do not know Him as “Savior and Lord” accept His Son Jesus and be “saved".

Next time John shares how, “the beast that you say was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
