Another Angel from Heaven Revelation 18:1

An angel showed John the apostle the “great whore” who was sitting upon a “scarlet colored beast” and was “arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls” and the “great city” where he wrote, “And the woman which you saw is that great city, which reigns over the kings of the earth, and in chapter eighteen and verse one of Revelation John “saw another angel come down from heaven” where we read:

And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven,
having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

The verse reads, And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, ... John began with the words, “and after” which means “and behind” “these things” or “the signs of the great whore and city” “I saw” which means “John perceived, noticed, discovered and discerned” “another angel” which means “one other messenger, envoy and one sent” “come down” or “descend” “from heaven” which refers to “from the region above the sidereal heavens and the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”. John watched as this “other angel” descended from the “heavenly realm”.

The verse continues, “... having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. John continued with the word, “having” which means “holding, owning and possessing” “great power” or “large, abundant and massive ability, strength, right and authority”; “and the earth” which refers to “the arable land, country, territory and region” “was lightened” or “was shining, enlightened and illuminated” “with his glory” which refers to “with the angel's splendor, brightness, magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity and grace”. John noticed how this “angel” was endued with “massive” power so much so that the “earth” itself was “illuminated” by his “splendor and magnificence”.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we might imagine John's reaction to this “brilliant and illuminating” “angel” as he looked upon him. As though John needed to see even more than he saw already, this “angel” “lit up the earth” with his “magnificence”. God Almighty has more “brilliant and shining angels” than we can even imagine, and each time He shares these “messengers” with John, we should be reminded that God, in all His glory, desires to have a relationship with us through His Son Jesus Christ. By submitting ourselves to Jesus, we shall experience these glorious “angels” with Him for all of eternity, and those who are wise shall not only receive Jesus into their hearts and lives, but also be in great expectation for the “brilliance” we shall one day see.

Next time we see the angel proclaim, cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
