Armageddon Revelation 16:16

As John continued to share concerning the events during the tribulation, He wrote about the antichrist, the false prophet and the angels who were involved in the reaping of the harvest of believers who received the Lord Jesus during that time. John wrote about the first, second, third, fourth and fifth angel pouring out their “vials filled with the wrath of God”, and he continued by writing, “And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame”. In chapter sixteen and verse sixteen of Revelation John shares how the Lord ,“gathered them together into a place called … Armageddon” where we read:

And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

The verse reads, “And he gathered them together into a place ... John began with the words, “and he gathered them” which means “God collected, assembled and brought the nations of the world” “together” or “collectively and jointly” “into a place” which means “to a space marked off for a special occasion”. John watched as God “assembled” all the nations of the world into one special “place”.

The verse continues, “... called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. John added the word, “called” which means “bid, named or saluted” “in the Hebrew tongue” or “in the Jewish, Chaldee or Hebrew language and tongue” “Armageddon” which means “the hill or city of Megiddo” and is “the scene of a the struggle of good and evil is suggested by that battle plain of Esdraelon which was famous for two great victories of Barak over the Canaanites and of Gideon over the Midianites; It was also the location for two great disasters - the deaths of Saul and Josiah”. This historical and future place, “Armageddon” will be the final battleground for the world.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we discover another ominous prophecy. Those who read these words should imagine all the nations being gathered together in this vast valley where the final “battle” shall take place, and war shall be poured out like never before. The valley of Meggido exists today, and these things shall surely come to pass, and still there exists an escape by submitting one's heart and life to Jesus Christ as “Savior and Lord”. Though this horrible battle is destined and certain, the time to be “saved” from this conflict is now. May all who read these words “take heed” and “yield”.

Next time John shares what happened when, “the seventh angel poured out his vial, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
