The Spirits of Devils Revelation 16:14

As John continued to share concerning the events during the tribulation, He wrote about the antichrist, the false prophet and the angels who were involved in the reaping of the harvest of believers who received the Lord Jesus during that time. John wrote about the first, second, third, fourth and fifth angel and what happened when they poured out their “vials”, and he continued by writing, “ And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.” In chapter sixteen and verse fourteen of Revelation John shares about “the spirits of devils, working miracles” where we read:

For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

The verse reads, “For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, ... John began with the word, “for” which means “because, since, on account of and consequently” “they are the spirits” or “the three frog-like demons are the evil spirit, who were conceived as inhabiting the bodies of men” “of devils” which means “which belong to bad and evil, supernatural and inferior spirits”, “working miracles” or “performing, producing, constructing and forming signs, tokens and wonders”, “which go forth” which means “that proceed, flow and depart” “unto the kings” which refers to “toward the rulers, lords, commanders and princes” “of the earth” or “belonging to the arable land, country, territory and region” “and of the whole world” which means “and to all or to the complete inhabited earth”. John shared how these “three demons” who have power to perform “supernatural wonders” were directed toward all the earth.

The verse goes on to say, “... to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. John added the words, “to gather them” which means “to collect, receive and draw together the rulers of the world” “to the battle” or “to the strife, quarrel and war”, “of that great day” which means “which belongs to that large, massive and intense appointed time and day” “of God” or “of the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “Almighty” which refers to “the One who holds sway over all things, the ruler of all and the absolute and universal sovereign omnipotent One”. John showed the work of these “three demons” was to assemble the “rulers of the world” for a huge “war” upon a day appointed by God.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we see the purpose of these “three frog-like demons” sent forth by “Satan, the antichrist and the false prophet”. They were charged with bringing together all the rulers of the world to this final “battleground” where world war would be fought. This ominous scene must have took John aback as he watched these “demons” work and inspire the world rulers. God has an appointed time for this “battle” to take place, and He already knows when it shall occur. His current plan is to have people surrender their lives to Him through a relationship with His Son Jesus, and if they yield to Him, they shall avoid this horrific scene. If not, people who are living in this time shall know a war like the world has never known before, and woe be to all who participate within it.

Next time John shares how the Lord says, “Behold, I come as a thief, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
