All Amazed and Glorifying God - Luke 5:26

Luke the beloved physician wrote, “it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him. And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus. And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, your sins are forgiven you. And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone? But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason you in your hearts? Whether is easier, to say, Your sins be forgiven you; or to say, Rise up and walk? But that you may know that the Son of man has power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto you, Arise, and take up your couch, and go into your house. And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God”, and in chapter five and verse twenty-six of his book Luke shares how the people who saw the miracle, “were all amazed, and they glorified God” where we read:

And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying,

We have seen strange things to day.

The verse reads,And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, ... Luke began with the words, “And they were all amazed” or “and each, every, the whole and everyone of the people watching this miracle were astonished, bewildered and with a displacement of the mind”, “and they glorified God” which means “and the people honored, magnified, extolled and celebrated the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”, “and were filled with fear” or “and were imbued, influenced and supplied with terror, dread, reverence and awe”, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming” the following words. Luke shared the reaction of the people who watched this miracle upon the man with palsy as they “honored and magnified” God while being “imbued” with “reverence and awe” and “declaring” the following words.

The verse continues,... We have seen strange things to day. Luke added the words, “we have seen” which means “we people have observed, beheld, perceived, noticed, discerned and discovered” “strange things to day” or “unexpected, uncommon, incredible and wonderful things upon this daytime”. Luke shared how the people declared how they observed “unexpected and incredible” things that particular day.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how the people were mesmerized at this miracle performed by Jesus. Jesus made the man with palsy walk, and people had never seen the like before. They were in “awe” over what they saw and declared that they never saw anything like this. God is in the “amazing” business, and because He is the Creator of the world, no power, virus or disease on earth is mightier than He. Jesus came to the world to “save” people from their “sins” so they may live forever, and when they submit their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He not only forgives their sins, but grants them everlasting life. This wonderful work of Jesus is available to everyone, and when a person examines the life of Jesus, they will be in “awe and reverence” of Him because He demonstrates His willingness to forgive them through His mighty miracles.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus, “saw a publican, named Levi”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
