Jesus Observes Two Ships - Luke 5:2

The beloved physician Luke shared how, “it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon” Jesus “to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret”, and in chapter five and verse two of his book Luke shared how Jesus,“saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets” where we read:

And saw two ships standing by the lake:

but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

The verse reads,And saw two ships standing by the lake: Luke began with the words, “and saw” or “and observed, noticed, discovered and discerned” “two ships” which means “two sailing vessels or boats” “standing by the lake” or “put in place, set, fixed and established alongside of lake Gennesaret”. Luke shared how Jesus observed “two boats” that were set in place on the shore of lake Gennesaret.

The verse continues, but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. Luke added the words, “but the fishermen” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding, moreover and the men who were fishers” “were gone out of them” or “were disembarked from the boats”, “and were washing their nets” which means “and were rinsing off their fishing nets”. Luke shared how the boats were empty because the “fishermen” left them to “wash” their fishing nets.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we notice how observant Jesus was to His surroundings. The people were so “pressing” upon Jesus to “hear” Him that they were pushing Him toward the lake of Gennesaret. Jesus looked around and saw “two” empty fishing boats nearby, and He knew what He would do with them. In other words, Jesus solved another problem. This was another physical problem that Jesus addressed, and because He often works practically, Jesus simply observe the “two ships”. God desires to be personally involved in a person's life, and when they submit themselves to His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”, He becomes a reliable consort for solving difficulties that arise.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus, “entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
