Jesus About Thirty Years Old - Luke 3:23

Luke the physician shared, “Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, you are my beloved Son; in you I am well pleased”, and in chapter three and verse twenty-three of his book Luke shared how, “Jesus Himself began to be about thirty years of age” where we read:

And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age,

being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

The verse reads, “And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, ... Luke began with the words, “and Jesus himself” or “and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation his own self” “began to be about thirty years of age” which means “made a beginning of being thirty years old”. Luke shared how Jesus was “thirty years old” at this time in Luke's story.

The verse continues, “... being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,” Luke added the words, “being (as was supposed)” which means “existing in a manner and likeness to the custom and regard to” “the son of Joseph” or “the offspring and progeny belonging to Joseph whose name means let him add”, “which was the son of” which means “who was the offspring and progeny belonging to” “Heli” or “Heli whose name means ascending”. Luke began to share the lineage of Jesus which began with Jesus' earthly father “Joseph” whose father was “Heli”.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn the age of Jesus, thirty, at this point in Luke's story. Luke then began to share the “lineage” of Jesus because the Messiah must come through the “priestly and kingly” line of David and Abraham. We will take the time to discover the meanings of each of these names as God knew each of these people and used them to bring forth His Christ, Jesus. God knows everyone, and His desire is to have them yield their lives to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Let us be reminded as we study through the lineage of Jesus that God knows our names as well, and each person is not only known by Him but also loved by Him greatly.

Next time Luke continues to share the lineage of Jesus, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
