Jesus Rebuking Devils - Luke 4:41

Luke the beloved physician shared, “when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto” Jesus “and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them”, and in chapter four and verse forty-one of his book Luke shared how, “devils also came out of many” because Jesus was “rebuking them” where we read:

And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, You are Christ the Son of God.

And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.

The verse reads,And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, You are Christ the Son of God. Luke began with the words, “and devils” or “and evil spirits, messengers and ministers of the devil” “also came out of many” which means “even so and indeed emitted, emanated and went forth from a large and massive group of people”, “crying out” or “vociferating, shrieking, exclaiming, croaking and screaming”, “and saying” which means “and uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “you are Christ” or “you, Jesus, are the Messiah, God's anointed One” “the Son of God” which means “the offspring and progeny of the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Luke shared how a large group of people were delivered of “evil spirits” who “screamed and shouted” that Jesus was God's Messiah as they left their bodies.

The verse goes on to say,And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ. Luke continued with the words, “and he rebuking them” which means “and Jesus chiding, reproving and censuring the devils severely” “suffered them not to speak” or “and did not allow or permit the devils to utter a voice or emit a sound”: “for they knew that he was Christ” which means “because, since and on account that the devils perceived, noticed, discerned and observed that Jesus was the Messiah and Son of God”. Luke shared how Jesus would not allow the “devils” to say a word or utter a sound because they discerned that Jesus was God's Messiah and Son.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see the power Jesus had over “evil spirits” as He cast them out of people and forbade them to speak. The “devils” recognized Jesus for who He was, the Messiah of God, and they submitted themselves to His authority immediately. God knows there are “evil spirits” within the world who do their best to keep people from a personal relationship with Him. Jesus is more powerful than all of them, and whenever a person who yields their life to Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” is suppressed or oppressed by Satan and his evil ministers, they can turn to Jesus who is not only able to drive “devils” away but will also “silence” their voices.

Next time Luke shares, “when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
