Sick and Diseased Healed by Jesus - Luke 4:40

Luke the beloved physician shared how the people who saw Jesus take dominion over an unclean spirit, “were all amazed, and spoke among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out. And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about. And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her. And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them”, and in chapter four and verse forty of his book Luke shared, “when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him” where we read:

Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.

The verse reads,Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; Luke began with the words, “now when” or “moreover and at the time and moment” “the sun was setting” which means “at dusk or when the sun in the sky was being plunged or sunk into the horizon”, “all they that had any sick” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of the people who were weak, feeble, without strength, needy and powerless” “with divers diseases” which means “with various, different and variegated sicknesses, maladies and infirmities” “brought them unto him” or “carried and lead the sick to Jesus”. Luke shared how anyone who was “ill” with various “maladies and infirmities” was “carried” to Jesus.

The verse continues, and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them. Luke added the words, “and he laid his hands” which means “and Jesus put and placed His physical hands” “on every one of them” or “upon each of the sick people”, “and healed them” which means “and cured, served and restored them to health”. Luke shared how Jesus place His hands upon each of the people who were brought to Him, and He cured every one of them.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how people responded to what they heard about Jesus. When they discovered He had power over “spiritual and physical” needs, they brought everyone who was “sick” to Him. Jesus touched their bodies and cured them all, and because He is God incarnate and the “Savior of the world”, He is the One who deserves to be honored, glorified, worshiped and adored. Those who are wise will come to Jesus and believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” and be spiritually and physically “healed”.

Next time Luke shares how, “devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, You are Christ the Son of God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
