Jesus Rebuking a Fever - Luke 4:39

Luke the physician shared how the people who saw Jesus take dominion over an unclean spirit, “were all amazed, and spoke among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out. And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about. And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her”, and in chapter four and verse thirty-nine of his book Luke shared how Jesus, “stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her” where we read:

And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her:

and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.

The verse reads,And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: Luke began with the words, “and he stood over her” or “and Jesus took a standing position above Simon's mother in law”, “and rebuked the fever” which means “and chided, admonished and charged the inflammation within her body”; “and it left her” or “and the fever departed and went forth from the body of Simon's mother in law”. Luke shared how Jesus healed Simon's mother in law by standing over her and “charging” the “fever” to leave her body.

The verse goes on to say,and immediately she arose and ministered unto them. Luke continued with the words, “and immediately” which means “and straightway and forthwith” “she arose” or “Simon's mother in law raised herself and got up” “and ministered unto them” which means “and served, attended to and waited upon Jesus and His disciples”. Luke shared how Simon's mother in law “straightway” raised up from where she was laying and began to serve Jesus and His disciples.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus solved this physical problem. He simply stood over Simon's mother in law, charged the “fever” to leave her and the “fever” left. Right afterward Simon's mother in law got up from where she was lying and served Jesus and those with Him. Jesus not only solved the “spiritual” problem that involved the “unclean devil” within a man, but He cured the “fever” or “physical” problem within the mother of Simon's wife. God loves people, and regardless of how small or great their problem may be, He is the answer. God desires to have a relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and although everyone will have problems both big and small, Jesus is the answer to all of them.

Next time Luke shares, “when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
