Saruch, Ragau, Phalec, Heber and Sala - Luke 3:35

Luke the physician shared about Jesus' lineage who came through Matthat, Levi, Melchi, Janna, Joseph, Mattathias, Amos, Naum, Esli, Nagge, Maath, Mattathias, Semei, Joseph, Juda, Joanna, Rhesa, Zorobabel, Salathiel, Neri, Melchi, Addi, Cosam, Elmodam, Er, Jose, Eliezer, Jorim, Matthat, Levi, Simeon, Juda, Joseph, Jonan, Eliakim, Melea, Menan, Mattatha, Nathan, David, Jesse, Obed, Booz, Salmon, Naasson, Aminadab, Aram, Esrom, Phares, Juda, Jacob, Isaac, Abraham, Thara and Nachor, and in chapter three and verse thirty-five of his book Luke continues with more names in the lineage of Jesus where we read:

Which was the son of Saruch, which was the son of Ragau, which was the son of Phalec,

which was the son of Heber, which was the son of Sala,

The verse reads,Which was the son of Saruch, which was the son of Ragau, which was the son of Phalec, ... Luke began with the words, “which was the son of” or “who was the offspring and progeny belonging to” “Saruch” which means “intertwined”, “which was the son of” or “who was the offspring and progeny belonging to” “Ragau” which means “associate you: feed you” “which was the son of” or “who was the offspring and progeny belonging to” “Phalec” which means “division”. Luke shared three more names in the ancestral line of Jesus - “intertwined, associate or feed you and division”.

The verse continues, “... which was the son of Heber, which was the son of Sala, ...” Luke added the words, “which was the son of” which means “who was the offspring and progeny belonging to” “Heber” or “Hebrew which means the region beyond”, “which was the son of” which means “who was the offspring and progeny belonging to” “Sala” or “sprout”. Luke added two more names to Jesus' lineage - “the regions beyond and sprout”.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we discover more of the message of God to mankind through the names in Jesus' earthly ancestral line. “Intertwined, associate or feed you, division, the regions beyond and sprout”. God decided to “intertwine” Himself into the lives of people as He desired to be an “associate” who fed them who were divided from Him. He reached to “regions beyond” to “sprout” the beginning of the Kingdom of God within every person who believes and trusts in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. God loves people, and He wants to save people from their sins which separate them from a relationship with Him. Those who yield their lives to His Son Jesus will have their “sins” forgiven and inherit “everlasting life” with God.

Next time Luke adds more names in the lineage of Jesus, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
