In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he spoke to King Nebuchadnezzar about his dream and said, “whereas you saw the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as you saw the iron mixed with miry clay. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse forty-three of his book, Daniel shared how he told King Nebuchadnezzar more about, “the iron mixed with miry clay” where we read,
And whereas you saw iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men:
but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
The verse reads, “And whereas you saw iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men:”Daniel began with the words, “and whereas you saw” or “and in the manner that you, King Nebuchadnezzar, perceived, noticed, discerned, discovered and observed” “iron mixed with miry clay” which means “the iron metal joined together with the muddy potsherd or clods”, “they shall mingle themselves” or “they, the iron and the clay, will mix and joined together” “with the seed of men” which means “alongside and accompanying the offspring and progeny belonging to people both male and female”. Daniel shared how the “iron mixed with miry clay” will join together alongside the offspring of people.
The verse continues, “but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.” Daniel added the words, “but they shall not cleave to another” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover they, the people mingled with the iron metal and clay, will in no way or manner stick and cling to one another”, “even as iron”or “similar to the manner that iron metal” “is not mixed with clay” which means “is in no way or manner mingled with muddy potsherd or clods”. Daniel said the people who were among the “iron and clay” kingdom would in no way or manner be co-mingled with each other similar to the way “iron metal” does not join together with potter's potsherd.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how this kingdom, which was represented with the “iron and clay” within the “feet and toes” of the image seen by King Nebuchadnezzar, was one that would mingle among people, however, they would never be joined together completely. This powerful, but weaker yet, kingdom was to descend from the “iron metal” kingdom which came before it. Babylon (the head of gold), Medo-Persia (the silver chest and arms), Greece (the belly and legs of brass) and Rome (the two lower iron metal legs) all preceded this final world ruling empire. This last empire before the extraction of the stone without hands will be comprised of people and rulers, but they will not completely mix together. God's plan of salvation was coming together, and His Son Jesus would come to the earth during the “Roman Empire” to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. Three days later he would be raised from the dead so all who believe and trust in Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and given aid by His Holy Spirit to know that He has “kingdoms” and people completely in His control.
Next time Daniel shares how he told King Nebuchadnezzar, “in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
