Paul the apostle declared
to the church members in Corinth, “this
corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must
put on immortality.”,
and in chapter fifteen
and verse fifty-four of First Corinthians, Paul shared with the
church members concerning, “Death
is swallowed up in victory”, where we
read:
So when
this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal
shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the
saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
The verse begins, “So
when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal
shall have put on immortality,…”
Paul began with the words, “so
when” or “moreover and as long or as soon
as” “this corruptible”
which means “this perishing and decaying body” “shall
have put on” or “will have sunk into and
is clothed with” “incorruption”
which means “immortality, perpetuity, purity and sincerity”, “and
this mortal” or “this body that is liable
to death and dying”
“shall have put on”
or “will have sunk into and is clothed with” “immortality”
which means “undying and everlasting life”.
The verse goes on to say,
“…then
shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is
swallowed up in victory.”
Paul added the words, “then
shall” which means “at that time will”
“be brought to pass”
or “shall come into existence, begin to be, come to pass and
happen” “the saying”
which means “the utterance by a living voice which embodies a
conception or idea” “that is written”
which refers to “things which stand written in the sacred books of
the Old Testament” “Death”
or “the separation of the soul and the body by which the life on
earth is ended” “is swallowed up”
which means “devoured and destroyed” “in
victory” or “in triumph and conquest”.
When the “corruptible
bodies” have been clothed in “incorruption”,
then “death” shall
be “devoured and destroyed” in “triumph and conquest”.
When
we meditate upon these words from Paul, we understand how “death”
will have met it's match as the Christian bodies are changed from
“perishing and decaying” to “immortal”
and “incorruptible”.
Jesus Christ overcame the power of “death”
as He was resurrected from the grave, and He desires to give all who
believe in Him the same. “Death”
has been defeated by Jesus as was prophesied in Isaiah chapter
twenty-five and verse eight where we read, “He
will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away
tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take
away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.”,
and now “eternal life”
is available to everyone who will simply believe.
Next
time Paul tells the
church members when,
“O
death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
