Paul the apostle began his second
letter to the church members in Corinth with the words, “Paul,
an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy”,
and in chapter one and verse two Paul continued his
introductory greeting with,“Grace be to
you and peace”,
where we read:
Grace be
to you and peace from God our Father, and from the
Lord Jesus Christ.
The verse begins, “Grace be
to you and peace from God our Father, ...” Paul began
with the word, “Grace” which means “that which affords
joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm, loveliness and unmerited
favor” “be to you” or “be toward the church members in
Corinth” “and peace” or
“harmony, concord, security, safety, prosperity and felicity”
“from God” or “by way of the Godhead bodily and trinity
which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy
Spirit” “our Father” or “Paul and the church members'
originator and transmitter of everyone and everything”. Paul's
greeting was that God's “unmerited favor” would be upon the
church members which would provide “harmony and tranquility” to
them in return.
The verse continues, “... and
from the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Paul added the words, “and from” which means “” “the
Lord” which refers to “he to whom a person or thing belongs,
about which he has power of deciding and the title given to God the
Father” “Jesus” whose name means “Jehovah is
Salvation” and is “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God
incarnate” “Christ” or “the anointed One, the Messiah
and the Son of God”. Paul shared how the “origin” of “grace”
and “peace” was from “God the Father” and “Jesus
Christ” who is Lord.
When we meditate upon these words from
Paul, we see the importance of both “grace and peace” within the
church members. The “grace” or “unmerited favor” of
God is how people come into a relationship with Him by way of His Son
Jesus, and afterwards comes “God's peace”. The “peace”
of “God” comes as a result of receiving His “grace”,
and Paul desired that all the church members not only receive them,
but also to enjoy them as well.
Next
time Paul writes, “Blessed
be
God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” so
read ahead, and we shall join together then.
