Paul the apostle told the
church members in Corinth, “All
the brethren greet you”,
and he encouraged them to “greet
one another with a holy kiss”.
In chapter sixteen and verse
twenty-one of First Corinthians, Paul continued his benediction to
this letter as he wrote, “the salutation of
me Paul”,
where we read:
The verse begins, “The
salutation of me Paul...” Paul began with the words,
“the salutation” which means “the greeting by letter”
“of me Paul” or “by Paul himself”. Paul wrote this
last part of his benediction himself.
The verse goes on to say,
“...with my own hand”
Paul continues with the word, “with my own”
which refers to “Paul's personal” “hand”
or “hand of the human body”. Paul wrote this portion of his
letter with his “own hand”.
When we think through
these words from Paul, we see how he felt it important to write this
portion of his benediction himself. Paul usually dictated his letters
while others wrote his words. The “salutation” of Paul
demonstrated his personal drive to be involved in the “gospel of
Jesus Christ”, and as we take note of his words, let us be inspired
to convey our care for the eternal lives of others as well.
Next
time Paul shares
with the church members concerning those who do not “love
the Lord Jesus”
and pronounces upon them, “Anathema
Maranatha”,
so read ahead,
and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
