Paul
the apostle told the church members in Corinth, “a
great door and effectual is opened unto me”,
and he noted how there were “many
adversaries”.
In
chapter sixteen and verse ten of First Corinthians, Paul tells the
church members, “I will tarry at Ephesus
until Pentecost”, where
we read:
Now if
Timothy come, see that he may be with you without fear:
for he
works the work of the Lord, as I also do.
The
verse begins, “Now
if Timothy come, see that he may be with you without fear:...”
Paul began
with the word, “now” which
means “moreover and” “if Timothy”
whose name means “whether honoring God” and was “a resident of
Lystra, apparently, whose father was a Greek and mother a Jewess; he
was Paul's traveling companion and fellow laborer” “come”
which means “to appear and arrive from one place to another”,
“see that he may be”
or “discern and perceive that Timothy might be” “with
you” which
refers to “the church members” “without
fear” or
“fearless and boldly”. Paul exhorted the church members to insure
that Timothy be among them without having to be afraid of his
position among them.
The
verse continues, “... for
he works the work of the Lord, as I also do.”
Paul added
the word, “for” which
means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore” “he works” or
“Timothy labors, exercises, performs, commits and produces” “the
work”
which means “the business, employment and that which any one is
occupied” “of the Lord”
which refers to “he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which
he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the
Messiah”, “as I also do”
which means “as Paul even and indeed did”. Paul certified how
Timothy did the Lord's “work”
in the same manner as he did.
When
we consider these words from Paul, we see how he vouched for Timothy
and desired that he be received and cared for by the church members
in Corinth. Timothy was Paul's young protege', and he sent him to
Corinth to care for the ministry in the church there. The gospel of
Jesus Christ has many people of various ages and experiences to share
it, and when there are those who are younger involved, like Timothy,
some of them need their mentors to validate them. We should be aware
of those who share the “good news” of Jesus Christ, provide for
them so they may minister “without fear” and insure they
are carrying about the “work” in a manner like unto Paul
the apostle.
Next
time
Paul tells the church members to, “let
no man therefore despise him”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
