Paul
the apostle shared with the church members in Corinth “And
when I come, whomsoever you shall approve by your
letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem”.
In
chapter sixteen and verse four of First Corinthians, Paul declared to
the church members, “they shall go with me”,
where we read:
And if
it be meet that I go also, they shall go with me.
The
verse begins, “And
if it be meet that I go also, ...”
Paul began
with the words, “And if” or
“and whether or in case” “it be
meet”
which means “it has weight, is befitting, congruous, corresponding
to a thing or merited” “that I go
also” or
“that Paul carry over, transport and continue on his journey” .
Paul hoped he would be able to go to Jerusalem as well, however, he
knew that might not be a possibility.
The
verse continues, “... they
shall go with me.” Paul
added the words, “they shall go” or
“those who are appointed and approved shall be carried over,
transported and continued upon their journey” “with
me” which
means “along with Paul”. Paul desired to go to Jerusalem, and he
would have the ones appointed and approved to carry the offerings to
the church to go with him.
When
we think through these words from Paul, we see how important is was
that he be involved in the benevolence of those within the church who
give. The “gospel of Jesus Christ” and the works that emit
from it were worthy of Paul's attendance, and they should be for us
as well. Jesus desires for everyone to “come unto” Him, and when
they do, there is more than ample opportunity to “go with” those
who share the “good news”.
Next
time
Paul declares to the church members, “Now
I will come unto you, when I shall pass through Macedonia”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
