Paul
the apostle shared with the church members in Corinth concerning,
“the resurrection of the dead.” He
said of the body, “It is sown in
corruption; it is raised in incorruption:”,
and in
chapter fifteen and verse forty-three of First Corinthians, Paul told
the church members “it is sown in dishonor
and raised in glory”, where
we read:
The
verse begins, “It
is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory:”
Paul began
with the words, “it is sown” or
“the body is scattered and planted” “in
dishonor”
which means “in ignominy, disgrace, reproach, shame and vile”;
“it is raised”
or “the body is aroused, risen and produced”
“in glory”
which means “in splendor and brightness”. Paul wrote how the body
of a person is “planted” in the ground in “disgrace and vile”,
but it “rises”
in “splendor and brightness”.
The
verse goes on to say, “
it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:”
Paul added
the words, “it is sown” which
means “it is scattered and planted” “in
weakness”
or “in want of strength, frailty and infirmity”: “it
is raised”
which means “the body is aroused, risen and produced” “in
power” or
“in strength and ability”. Paul shared how the body is “planted
in frailty” and “risen” in “strength and ability”.
When
we think through these words from Paul, we see his example of the way
the “body” of a person is buried. Though it is put into the
ground in a way of “vileness and disgrace”, the promise is that
it will “rise” in “splendor”. Though it is buried in
“frailty”, it will “be raised” in “strength and ability”.
Jesus promised “everlasting life” for those who believe in
Him, and though their “bodies” may be buried in “dishonor and
weakness”, they shall be “raised” in “splendor and
brightness”.
Next
time Paul shares with
the church members how the body,
“is sown
a natural body...raised a spiritual body”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
